PGP - /pee-gee-pee/ n. - An application and protocol for secure e-mail and file encryption developed by Phillip R. Zimmerman, originally published as freeware, the source has always been available for public scrutiny. PGP uses a variety of algorathims, such as IDEA, RSA, Diffie-Hellman, CAST, DSA, MD5 and SHA-1 for providing encryption, authentication, message integrity and crypto key management. PGP is based on the "Web of Trust" model and has world-wide deployment.
